So last night Jimmy and i went to our Midwife Orientation and Tour of the B & W Center (www.birthcenter.net). It started out okay, traffic wasn't bad, but then they had 2 of the roads (at the very end) closed due to construction! Craziness, but we finally found it and we were even a little early!
The center is really just an old house (1902) that has been converted to this beautiful birthing center. We were shown the birthing room and adjoining bathroom, there's a nice little waiting room for family. Upstairs they have a "nap room" and another room for checkups etc. The cutest part was they had all of the babies (that had been delivered there) foot prints on the walls. So cute!
During the question and answer period, Jimmy was of course the comedian in the room. Asking questions like "When she's crapping out the kid, can i order pizza and have it delivered here?" and "Do you have a full sized kitchen?" or"What about HBO?". He always makes me laugh (or cringe, lol). It was really nice though to have so many questions answered and by the time we left Jimmy's thoughts on the birthing process had totally changed! He'd always said he was gonna "stay at the north end of the sheet", but on the way home, he said now that he knows that there won't be any pushy doctors ordering him around he's excited to be an active participant. He even wants to catch the baby and cut the cord, something even yesterday at this time he swear he would never do. Yeah! I think it's finally hit him, he smiled all the way home and whenever i asked him why, he would just say he couldn't believe we were gonna have a baby (not a kid, not a parasite, a BABY!).
So our next appointment won't be until March 17th (Yipee St. Patty's Day!!). By then we will be able to hear the baby's heartbeat!
